One of my favs--GirlTREK, a sisterhood of more than a million black women taking the radical step to walk for their own self-care. The Black History Bootcamps provided a safe walk and talk space for me, especially in 2020. I loved listening to the podcasts and learning about people I had never heard of or knew so little about while I walked in my neighborhood. I suspect I will appreciate them even more this year. "You never have to ask permission to save your own life," is one of the mantras of GirlTREK. Love it. And I look super cute in my 3/4 zip royal blue pullover. Yeah, GirlTrek is definitely my Fav!

hey Austin, great list thank you - my favourite book of the last year has to be Forgiveness: An Exploration by Marina Cantacuzino and i am recommending that and lending it to everyone - what is great about it is that it's not a prescription of this is what Forgiveness looks like and this is how you have to forgive, but just what it says, an exploration into story after story of accounts of forgiveness with some hectic contexts and what happened or didn't happen when people did or didn't...

Keep on

Billy served me well for several years, until we had our own place, and could afford to install custom shelving.

"my body reminded me that I’m free to follow those rules" - haha! I have received such reminders. Based on how well I pay attention, I think the reminders are delivered on transparent post it notes, and also with transparent ink.

Not surprisingly both of my Feb faves are food!

Fine and Raw dark chocolate hazelnut spread. Seriously, 1000% better than Nutella.

Steeped Coffee. Single serve, no machine needed, no pods polluting the universe, seriously delicious coffee! Oh, and every last bit of it, packaging and all, is compostable.

I am obsessed with post-its and have bought the clear ones, white ones, and larger grid ones to collect data…..I should have gone into the office supply business.

My February faves…

I’m deep diving again into the neurodivergent conversations podcast. There have been several episodes that brought joy just by the simple fact that someone put into words something I couldn’t define. Loud YES YES coming from the car during Tiffany Hammond’s guest appearance (A day with no words is one of the best children’s books I’ve read) and then the episode about coping. I keep forwarding the episodes to people. This podcast has affirmed so much for me, helped me to understand myself, my sons, my work relationships, the families I serve and I never feel like I’m listening to an advertisement- most real conversations without the intense masking.

Book wise- Covenant of Water- love it when I lay down to read and I feel like I’m getting to hang out with a friend I’ve been missing.

And the rare and coveted joy of napping!!!!!

Thank you for this post- it feels like a luxury to sit and think about joy for these minutes all to myself!

A really great list of favorites. Some of my favorites this month are Kennedy Ryan’s newly released book, This Could Be Us. I loved the first book in the series Before I Let Go & I definitely plan to do a re read. I think another favorite is re watching some older Black love movies, I re watched Love Jones & Breaking All The Rules & definitely “jonesing” for Best Man Holiday but do I really need another thing to cry about! We shall see. This month I am enjoying getting books from my local library that are cozy mysteries written by women of color! That has been fun. So sharing a few faves.
