How I love this! Reminds me of two things: Viktor Frankl, while detained in a concentration camp, decided that he had the freedom to choose his thoughts, to choose kindness, to choose joy with memories of his wife who he never saw again. Second thing: when I was diagnosed with cancer fifteen years ago, a psychic told me that my JOY would heal me. Racism is a cancer, and JOY breaks its psychological hold. Your words bring me joy and hope.
I have to say, as a white male in his thirties when I first started reading this post I was very confused. I have always thought of resistance as “struggle, hardship, etc”
But after reading your post I have a much deeper understanding and can see this topic through a completely new lense.
Thank you for the courage and bravery you demonstrated for writing this and for the other endless work I’m sure you are doing. I know you aren’t doing it for me, but for a better tomorrow. I just wanted to acknowledge you and let you know you made an impact on me. Thank you
I loved this. I wanted to cry and laugh. I have no tears left so I just smiled instead and nodded and understood. I want to get into poetry and have been thinking about where to start. This post gave me some good ideas. Also, can anyone recommend where to start with reading bell hooks?
