My mother is no longer with us but I remember watching Hallmark movies with her before she passed. She used to take my daughters to the movies and watch movies at home with them. She taught them to love The Muppets and Milo and Otis. I will definitely watch Are You There God with my girls (18 and 23) and think of my mom and wish she was with us.
The movie seemed like a bit of magic! I enjoyed it so much! I called my mom afterwards and told her that I am so glad to have been a child of the 70s. Growing up was a magical time, mixed in with a bit of crazy -- but an innocence that generations after us will never have.
I just love Judy and to hear her talk lately and she cussed at the loonies who tried to twist her words about the LGBTQIA community that made me so happy to see her fiesty in real time. Her books have never gotten old to me.
But have you watched the documentary/profile of Judy Blume on Amazon Prime -- “Judy Blume Forever.” She’s so amazing! AND she lives in Key West where she owns and runs a little bookshop, so I’m already planning my move. 😂
I absolutely did! I’ve also taken her Masterclass and I’d 1000% go to her bookshop of it was located in a state where I felt relatively safe 🥺. She’s one of those people who I just want to thank- you know?!
Absolutely! Florida — ugh! But I live in deep red Texas with two queer kids so Key West is a step up in safety. But we can hide and mask if we need to and be relatively safe when we travel, and I know that’s not your experience.
Judy Blume is a carbon copy of one of my incredible doctoral advisors, so I almost feel like I’ve already spent time with Judy. 🥰
My mother didn’t exactly ban Judy Blume but she had many concerns. I felt slightly scandalous reading “Margaret” and “Forever” late at night. With my firstborn daughter, I was also very concerned about what she was reading, so I get my own mom’s fears. (But let’s be honest, Judy is a G rating compared to VC Andrews!) I love that you could share the movie experience with your mother. I hope to have the same relationship with my two girls when they grow up ❤️
Oh my goodness. We must increase our bust. I used to do that, along with arm movements, from my house to the road when I was younger. Wow!
I love that you did it outside!! How sweet!

Thank you for sharing these lovely memories 💜
