Holy forking Shirtballs. I posted a photo of my family’s Black Lives Matter signs before we attended the peaceful protest last night in Davenport, Iowa. An elderly woman I sing with in our church and serve next to at our food pantry then commented, “All Lives Matter!” I learned the expression “disrupting the narrative” from you and so I did in a civil, though matter of fact way. It was the most amazing thread to read because she finally commented, “Now I understand what Black Lives Matter is about and why it isn’t right to say All Lives Matter.” Her mind was changed because of your writing. Thank you for teaching us!
Absolutely. Each one more mind boggling than the next. Bodies, homes, labor, jobs, education, and on, and on, and on... You're so right. We must trouble the narrative.
“T h e crisis of leadership in the white community is remarkable—and terrifying—because there is, in fact, no white community.“. Absolutely eye-opening. The concept sounds absurd until reading Baldwin.
The whole looting narrative was troubled for me when I moved to my little Dawson's Creek/One Tree Hill town about four years ago - Wilmington, NC. A few years ago, people began to draw more attention to one of the nation's only coups-d'etat that was described as a "race riot." Where I live (near the quaint riverfront) is just a couple blocks away from where the building of the city's black newspaper was burned. The history of the 1898 Insurrection and Massacre (or just "1898" as they call it here mostly now) was not even taught in schools here until about 10 years ago. Thank you for helping us learn.

Thank you! I read The Case for Reparations last night. It absolutely puts looting in a whole other context
What I can’t get over, is that’s just one form of looting. There have been so many others over time.

Baldwin makes a lot of things sound less absurd than they otherwise would 😉
Thank you for sharing these. I am really trying to be a listener and understand. I read your book a few years ago and it was incredibly impactful
Can you please share what Sara Harless read and quoted to her church friend. We have many discussing All Lives Matter. Help!!!
Friend, I don’t know who that is or what she shared?! Do you have a link?
She was a commenter above.;)
Thank you for these.
