I cannot believe I am about to type these words, but here we go. The current state of racial justice work has the federal administration proclaiming its intent to criminalize “DEI”. In a country with free speech as the first amendment, it’s a stunning proclamation. And I understand if it has you feeling personally attacked as businesses, nonprofits, schools and foundations scramble to figure out how to respond. Honestly, even though I do not belong to a singular institution, I still feel swept up in this because it has been my job to hit the road to support all of you in this work. It was one thing to be grounded by the pandemic. It’s an altogether different feeling to be grounded because institutions are too afraid of repercussions from our own government to risk bringing me in.
These are strange times, and I imagine you could use some community care. That’s why Im hosting a free event on Tuesday, February 11 at 8pm ET. I just want to take a moment to hold your hand and remind you that you are not alone.
I have nothing to ask of you. I won’t be selling a new course at the end. I won’t be asking you to organize. My desire is only to give.
If that sounds like something you need, you can REGISTER HERE. Please feel free to forward this message to others who may be looking for a little hope and someone to treat them gently.
I distinctly remember when those who don’t appreciate our work used to call us “social justice warriors”. I remember being just fine with the accusation. I am a warrior. But even warriors are still human.
You can find more details about the event HERE.
Hope to see you there.

Thank you for this upcoming online event...so needed by me as a DEI practitioner. I keep your book right beside me at all times these days for inspiration and courage. It's worn and frayed and marked up. But it has been my guide and still is. Thank you for all you do!! ~Leah
