Dear Troublemakers,
Phew. What a week for some exhausting white people. In the news. In the confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. In meetings I wasn’t in and ones that I was.
In one meeting I had this week, I watched as a group of white men started telling the rest of us that the ideas being so focused on Black women (which was the literal assignment) were and I quote, starting to make them feel “left out.” Friends, it took all my energy to not laugh or cry. I did turn off my screen though cause my face was not covering up my emotions very well.
I wish Ketanji Brown Jackson could have turned off her screen this week when she was insulted and undermined, demeaned and disrespected. Could have rolled her eyes and put them all in their place. Mostly I wished she could have found more moments of celebration and joy. Moments of pure peace. I wish that for all Black women. For me too.
