Hey Troublemakers,
What a week. It seems everyone I know is exhausted. I’m exhausted from launching a book and doing events and ig lives (oh hey KevOnStage and Jen Hatmaker) Some of my friends are exhausted from protesting and calling for change in Tennessee, some of my pastor friends are exhausted from Easter services, and pretty much without exception we all need some real rest.
I’m taking my cues from Tricia Hersey over at the nap ministry:
Get some rest! We need you to make it!!
A few other things for you this week…
REVIEW THE BOOK ON AMAZON* AND GOODREADS
*Amazon is sorta broken and freaks out when lots of people leave reviews at once…so we’re gonna organize! If your first name starts with O-Z - please leave a review today!
Goodreads is not broken so you can leave a review there right away! If you don’t want to re-write it for Amazon, you can just copy and paste what you already wrote! As my kid says “easy peasy lemon squeazy!”
Aside from pre-orders leaving reviews is the best way you can show support. Thank you to those who have already left Goodread reviews!!!
BIGGEST REVIEW TIP: DO IT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER! 😉 But here’s a few more tips if you are having writers block (and you can honestly never go wrong with a simple “I loved this book” or read a few reviews already up for inspiration - this one from Fayelle was so great - thanks, Fayelle!
“I wish I could buy a copy for absolute every girl and woman I know. I love how Austin fully encircles facets of being black. The highs and lows, the hurts and joys, the perspectives of her and others, how they change, how they grow. She invites us to think critically about EVERYTHING and models it beautifully - giving so many examples on not just how to ask a question but what questions to ask. What her questions are and what they AREN'T. I feel like a much, much better person for having read this. Every kid, every adult, would benefit from reading this. Benefit epically, not just a bit. This is solid gold.”)!
COME HANG OUT WITH ME AT AN UPCOMING EVENT!
Wednesday, April 13 - Bookbug Bookstore (with Samantha Irby!!!) in Kalamazoo at 7pm (please note this is a ticketed event so get those tickets!)
Thursday, April 20 - Family Action Network (with Natalie Y. Moore) on Zoom! This is for all of you outside Michigan!
Happy reading and thank you for being here and for believing in some more Black girl magic ✨✨✨
Stay wild and holy and free! And go take a nap maybe :)
Austin
